Patriarchate Media Center
His Beatitude Patriarch Cardinal Louis Raphael Sako calls on the Chaldeans around the world to fast and pray the Three Days of Ba’utha , January 22-24, for peace and stability in Iraq, the Holy Land, Ukraine, and in the world, to overcome the shackles of division and revenge, violence, conflicts and wars, through a political dialogue and in accordance with legal standards. It is the best way to solve problems.
Let us fervently pray to God Almighty to inspire world leaders to seek peace and not war that violates human rights and lives, and to achieve fruitful progress towards reconciliation, fraternal relations, love and tolerance for the good of humanity.
Note:
Ba’uatha means fasting and prayer of repentanc, in order to end a disturbing and frightening situation such as: the decline of morals, as in the days of Jonah prophet, an epidemic as “Corona” and wars as is the current situation of our miserable world.
Ba’utha falls 21 days before “Lent”. It has been practiced by the Chaldean, Assyrian and Syriac Churches since the 7th Century, in which people follow a definite fast from dinner to lunch.
Ba’utha includes, Prayers, hymns, petitions, poetic verses from St.Ephrem and Narsai and some “midarishes”, as well as readings from the Holy Scripture, concluded by the Mass and encouraging charities to help needy people.
